Pomegranate will protect you from overeating

The fact that pomegranates are a storehouse of antioxidants has long been known. Dietitian researchers recently found that they have one more advantage: they help fight hunger attacks. This means that by regularly consuming pomegranates, you can reduce the feeling of hunger, while the feeling of fullness is enhanced.

The experiment was conducted at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, with the participation of 29 people. Every day for three weeks, some of the participants took a placebo, and some took pomegranate extract from the peel, seeds and core.

After three weeks, before a lunch of pasta with tomato sauce, each participant drank a glass of pomegranate juice. Before meals and within two hours after it, at intervals of 15 minutes, they had to record in a special questionnaire the severity of hunger, a feeling of satiety and the degree of satisfaction with food.

As a result, participants who took the extract ate 22 percent less on average than volunteers from the control group (447 grams of pasta compared to 574 grams in the control group), and the food seemed tastier to them.

They felt less hungry on average by 12 percent, the desire to eat decreased by 21 percent, the feeling of satiety and satisfaction increased by 16 and 15 percent, respectively.

This suggests that pomegranate extract can help cope with the problem of overweight and obesity. Pomegranate juice also reduces pressure and improves the condition with insulin resistance.
